I haven't worn glasses regularly since I was in 7th grade. I hate wearing my glasses, mostly because I hate having them sitting on my face. I hate when they slide down and I hate that everyone has to comment on the fact that I am wearing glasses or that I look different or whatever . . . .
But I went to the eye doctor today, and I am going to have start limiting my time in my contacts. I am not happy at all about this. Apparently, I have an astigmatism in both eyes, which is what has been driving me nuts over the past few months. I have blurry vision and at night, my eyes get so, so tired. My doctor told me that I have dry eyes and that over time, my contacts have shifted the shape of my eyeballs to cause the astigmatism. I have no idea if this is true or not, but she said that I have to reduce my contacts wearing by 50%. That's a lot and I hate wearing my glasses.
So I posted a picture--I apologize for the cheesy self-portraits and awful lighting. And please excuse the eyebrows that are so badly in need of a waxing. So if you see me in my glasses, you now know why:)

Laura, I think you look very nice in your glasses. I self-diagnosed with the same issue. I wear Focus Dailies and have had the same prescription for 4 years. Just recently, my eyes have been feeling different and not adjusting as well to the contacts. So, I've had to resort to wearing my glasses. Unless I'm going out somewhere exciting, I wear my glasses. Makes me look so much smarter, I think. LOL. At least you have nice frames. Mine are so cheesy.
I love the glasses, Laura...they make you look very sophisticated! but i totally understand the "not happy at all" part...will try to send you a post i sent out about 5 months ago myself.
take heart that at least after you start wearing them for a few months people will stop commenting on the fact that you are wearing glasses.
I've got readers that are now permanently affixed to the top of my head, but have enjoyed getting them in many different colors and styles to see what i like best (works for me because of no astigmatism...mark had to get perscription readers because of his astigmatism...i know, we're both getting incredibly old.)
Laura--here's the piece i sent out in january...
today i officially got old...many times in the past i've uttered the words "i'm too old for this..." but i never really felt old...just too old to be getting up in the middle of the night with a baby...too old to be sitting cross-legged on the floor...too old to be sleeping on the ground in a tent, rather than on a mattress in a camper, or in a hotel...but i never really felt OLD.
I officially got old today at noon, when i picked up my new contact lens. yes, i've worn glasses since third grade (that's about 40 years--okay ,saying that makes me feel old), but they didn't make me feel old. about 5 years ago i bit the bullet and got bifocals...i thought that would make me feel old, but it just helped me see better when i was wearing my glasses instead of my contacts...a little over a year ago i got monovision contacts. that is, one eye is corrected for distance, one is corrected for close up. i recently decided that wasn't working for me anymore...i couldn't see clearly in the distance (especially when driving, i find it's helpful if you can read the street signs). so today i picked up my new contacts...now my eyes are just corrected for distance (and, by the way, i can't remember the last time i saw so good when driving). after i got the contacts i drove to a discount store to get some readers. and suddenly, in the blink of an eye, i was old. i'm one of those old ladies searching for her reading glasses which are on top of her head, or tucked inside her shirt, or in her purse, or in a million other places. i couldn't even see well enough to read what the strength of the glasses was without readers (made it a little tricky to pick them out). i bought two pairs, but i can tell i'm going to need at least a dozen, because i can't see anything (ANYTHING) up close without them. YUCK! i can't read the computer screen (yes, i'm wearing the readers as i type this), i can't do my sudoku puzzle, i can't read a book while i'm in the car pool line waiting to pick the kids up (okay, some of you will say that's a good thing)...i'm just old.
next thing you know, i'll need a cane...or Depends.
laura!! the same thing happened to me! i have to wear glasses until at least...december. i hate it. (but you do look totally cute in yours!)
It's a good thing you apologized for your eyebrows because I surely would'be said something.
I got bifocal contacts last year and they are not doing what I need them to do. I still can't see street signs very well which is not a good thing when driving somewhere unfamiliar (ie San Antonio!). They are great for computer or reading books but other than that...
I am afraid I am going to have to go back to all the time glasses. We can be cute and smart together.
I think they look GREAT! I can understand why you don't like wearing then, but I will NOT listen to any complaints about how you look in them! :-)
They look fabulous! I have never been able to wear contacts [astigmatism and super super watery eyes] so once I got over the "I dislike glasses" phase of my life at ummmm....25, I've been sporting glasses ever since. Now I kinda think I look funny without them!
